The assertive push to redefine wedding has now moved to the literary arena, and the most recent ally in the gay wedding movement is Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary. As a state mag explained : “One of the state’s most outstanding dictionary firms has resolved the discussion as to whether the term ‘marriage’ should apply to same-sex couples or be reserved for the establishment which has held families together for millennia by simply writing a new definition.” The new definition now states that wedding includes “the state of being united to an individual of the same sex in a relationship like that of a conventional marriage.”.

In 1945, George Orwell wrote Animal Farm, and one of the characters in the book was the pig, Informer , who randomly redefined words in order that they would mean what he wanted. As Orwell explained about Informer , “he could turn black into white” as an element of his effort to get the other animals to accept his message ; the same method is reputedly being employed in this modern dictionary.

It is unlucky the dictionary still carrying the name of Founding Father Noah Webster is totally unlike his original, which trusted the Bible as the foundation of his definitions. In reality, the definition for “marriage” in his original dictionary obviously states:. The act of uniting a woman and man for life ; wedlock ; the legal union of a woman and man for life.

Wedding is a contract both civil and spiritual, by that the parties engage to live together in mutual love and fidelity until death shall separate them. Webster’s original dictionary then gave a Biblical example to show the utilization of the word:. One of the finest techniques to deal with the new agenda is to renounce the new definition and continue to use the first. Or, as Proverbs 22:28 smartly teaches : “Do not move a traditional boundary stone set up by your forefathers.” One means to help preserve the traditional “boundary stones” of Biblical meanings is to use Noah Webster’s original 1828 dictionary instead of the new online dictionary that are moving more and more away from Biblical meanings.
